Its already been raining for several days. According to the landlord of the nearby pub the area has had hardly any visitors for several days due to the very wet weather. That morning a police car had blocked the road leading to the field where the formation was and drivers where obliged to take a detour. This probably had nothing to do with the formation which is not easy to find andnot visible from the road. One has to climb up Deacon hill to see it. In the crop circle the lay was very impressive, although someone or something had flattened and badly broken the stalks in the centre of the spiral 'eyes'. It looked as if something had slept there! Most stalks were bent, but not broken, at the base.It is impossible to bend oil seed rape without snapping the stalks. A top secret American early warning instalation existed until a few years ago a few miles to the north of the site. This closed down at the end of the 'cold war'. may 19 2003 : In a discussion with the farm foreman I learnt that this and neighbouring fields are visited nearly every year. The formations arrive, as is usually the case, in the night without anyone ever seeing them form. the farmer is fed up with these things happening in his fields and last year lost a substantial amount of grain (2 tons I believe the forman said, something like that) to the pigeons which can only get to the grain once the stalks are laid flat.
